The Messages app is flexible, letting
you send and receive messages via
SMS on your mobile network or
via the Message service on Wi-Fi. Using
Message means you won't consume any
of your allowance and with Messages
also being sendable via iPhone and
Mac, it makes for a far more flexible
system. Indeed, it is wise to keep the
service turned on because it is so handy
(but turn it off if you wish, by going to
Settings Messages Message.
Messages can have photos or videos
attached to them by pressing the camera
icon next to the message input box. You
can also include a subject line in your
messages, just as you would with an email
go to Settings Messages Show subject
Field). There are options here for adding
character counts and to turn Send Read
Receipts on and off-this notifies others
when you have read their messages

If you only want to send via the Message
service then go to settings Messages and
turn send as SMS to off This will ensure
that you don't incur carrier charges you
messages are disayed in the form of a
conversation thread You can also create
groups, share images and contact details
and keep track of earlier conversations.
